HOW MANY BALLS DO YOU NEED!

Thursday, June 14, 2007, 05:02 PM EST [General]

Okay.  I'm up to 19 balls now.  Half the time i'm not sure which one i'm going to use.  All i know is that i'll bring 6 or 7 for sure.  MAYBE!   I know that everyone in this group knows what i'm talking about.  How do you determine which ball to bring.  With 19 balls, half the time i bring different balls every week so that i can use all of them.  Even made up a shcedule of which balls i'll be bringing so that i don't use the same balls week after week.  Isn't it crazy?

The 6 or 7 balls are determined this way..... 2 heavy / 2 medium / 2 lite and a spare ball.  Different coverstocks of course so you have a variety of choice for every lane condition you may face.  Now just to let you all know that 3 out of those balls are my favourite and I along with everyone else i have a name for them....

mine are called  the "GO TO" / the "MONEY"/ and "OLD FAITHFULL"

my  "go to" ball is the first ball out of the bag.  my "money" ball is when i'm shooting for a strike pot or some heavy betting on the side.  "old faithfull"  is my out of date retired ball that no one uses or recognize anymore because of the battle scars on it.

It's funny because my wife asked me how many balls do i need and why i have so many (she asked me as i was looking at my 20th ball i was going to buy)  then it hit me.

I answered her in a very calm and polite way ofcourse:  I said "Honey" why do you have so many shoes and bags"  needless to say that my 20th ball should be arriving sometime next week.

The question is..."Do we really need more than 3 balls?  Should there be a limit?

That's a lot of balls, especially if you like to ship them to tournaments. Me, I carry with 3 maybe 4 balls if I'm driving. If I bring any more I spend too much time trying to figure out which balls to switch to and don't give my self time to adjust with the one in my hand. Plus it will take me too long to fill out the ball card. I can play any lane condition with any one of my balls, but its less effort if I use one over the other.

I don't think there should be a limit on the number of balls. As long as they don't put all of them on the ball return! The person who brings a lot of balls needs to really know their equipment to make it work for them. It sounds like you know your equipment.

How many of the 19 balls do you use? I think just the shipping of your bowling balls would cost you an arm and a leg. Even at Sr Tour events we are only allowed a max of 9 balls in the paddock area

usually take only six and i drive where i go so shipping is not a factor. when i do fly, i take the 3 ball tote for easy ahipping. before i use to pack 4 balls into a box and take 2 with me on board.

I once read, "You only need as many balls as it takes for you to enjoy the game." And if that means that after the night you rolled a sanctioned 300 game, you roll out of bed go and drill yourself a brand new ball the next morning, than so be it!
